Fine Dining Black Walnut Dining Table
(SOLD)
-----
This is the table of all tables. The 156” x 80” top is one piece, and there are three sets of columns that hold it up in the air. By far my most challenging build to date, and I could not be more happy with how it turned out.
Made with solid black walnut and black walnut veneers, you can see that the color matching is absolutely perfect through and through. The stunning ultra-premium 12” wide veneer material on the top was all custom sourced from a local supplier. Notice the hand-wrapped brass banding details on the dodecagonal pillar legs (please ignore any dust and my fingerprints all over them). The 6 pillar legs alone took a almost two workweeks to make from start to final finishing. Please also appreciate the engineering on the underside of the table. At this size I felt more like an architect than a furniture maker. I incorporated a slight positive deflection into the bordering and aprons to mitigate any sagging after 6 months of settling. After making it out to the house 6 months later to take these pictures, the top was just dead flat.
This table is a close-to-copy remake of a Baker Furniture table. The client wanted the Baker table, but this size was not manageable by their shop so I was called. Other than table height, nearly all of the dimensions are different from the original table. The client was very happy with how this turned out. Every bit of the table was made by myself. I did have the help of my wife and father for a few of the very intense glue ups though! Also this table took 7 people to carry out of the shop…diagonally through my double doors. Of course I measured my doors before I even turned on a saw, but as expected…it barely fit.
The table was set roomy for fourteen guests in the photos, but I am sure you could easily squeeze in 20+ fully using the ends.
This piece is finished with a satin polyurethane for a beautiful and warm glow. Finish will not water-spot.
