"Mars" Mid-Century Modern Walnut Dining Table

This is the third version (and I think final) version of my “Mars” design. This is newest and most improved version of “Mars”in walnut is all the same except for the stretcher through the center. I think this stretcher is a great example of “less is more”. I simplified the shaping from the 2nd version, and slimmer down the center. I think it looks sleeker and matches the other angles seen in the other elements of the table.

Also, different from the original and 2nd version, you will again see simpler sculpting done to the blocks joining the sets of legs, which ease into the new geometrically sculpted stretcher.

By design I wanted an ultra-thin look to the table top, so I added a shallow chamfer along the outside edges of the underside. I was not as agressive with this chamfer as compared to my 2nd version though. Often referred to as a “saarinen edge” this gave us a 3/4” thick look with the stability of a 1-1/2” thick table.

The table was not set in these photos, but you could easily squeeze in up eight guests using the ends.

Each piece is finished with a protective oil and hardwax blend for a beautiful and warm matte finish. Finish will not water-spot.
