"Eustace" White Oak Sideboard Cabinet
(SOLD)
-----
Eustace is a dragon in the C.S. Lewis book “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” I named this piece after that dragon for two reasons. First, because both the curly quartersawn white oak case and the scalloped quarterawn white oak doors resemble dragons scales. Second, like the transformation Eustace undergoes in the book, I too was in a transformational time of life around the time of making this.
Unlike almost everything else shown on the website, this piece was not commissioned. It was made over the course of probably 6 months “on the side” using short bursts of free time while in the middle of building and fulfilling many other commissions.
Take note of the geometric shapes on the doors. Surrounding these shapes are scalloped regions that are relieved to make their own geometric plane. The hope was to create multi faceted doors.
One other announcement related to this piece is that you can find it available/for-sale at “goodMRKT” in Jefferson Pointe. I was asked to be a founding member for the opening of this new consignment store because many of my pieces are made with salvaged lumber. I also have two sizes of cutting boards in for sale in the store as well.
Where are the pulls!? The doors operate with a push to open and push close. The shelves are adjustable in each compartment of the cabinet.
Each piece is finished with a protective oil and hardwax blend for a beautiful and warm matte finish. Finish will not water-spot.
