"The Mountaineer" White Oak Dining Table
(SOLD)
-----
"The Mountaineer" is a stunning representation quartersawn American white oak. The ribbons of contrasting color that dance their way through the table top, also known as ray fleck, are a wood characteristic that is most pronounced in the oaks of North America. Consequently, you will find that quartersawn oak is a feature in many of the most classic American furnishings of our past and present day.
This ray fleck phenomenon in our oaks occurs when the medullary rays that naturally run throughout the tree (from the center pith outward) are sliced parallel to reveal their cross sections. These medullary rays exist in many trees, but are best seen in American oaks. As furniture makers and sawyers, we can ensure this phenomenon exists in our lumber simply by sawing a log in a quarterly manner at the sawmill. Hence the name quartersawn.
Also shown in this table are some hunkin' finger joints that were hand cut to join the beefy 4" x 4" legs to the table top. This joinery makes the table all one piece of solid American vegetation that denies any questions of stability.
The table was set roomy for four guests, but you could easily squeeze in up to eight, especially using the ends.
Each piece is finished with a protective oil and hardwax blend for a beautiful and warm matte finish. Finish will not water-spot.
Dimensions (w/ legs):
86" L 30" W x 29" H
